Your heating system is part of a range of comfort for your home. A furnace that is properly maintained and serviced will provide years of enjoyment. A heater that is poorly maintained may not work correctly, can create excessive electrical bills, and can even be a danger.

OUR REVIEWS

When a furnace or heat pump isn’t operating correctly, it can be noisy, blow cold air, or not function at all. If it is the wrong size, it may be short cycling or not heating the designated area. Having a professional come to assess the situation, repair the problem, or provide necessary maintenance will keep your heating system functioning for years.

A note about radiant floor heat:

One of the alternative options available to Floridians is radiant floor heat. It is best to install this type of heating during the construction of the home or addition to cut down on the expense. It uses the heat from a hot water system, which travels through a series of tubes beneath the flooring to heat the home with radiant heat.

Your Heating system might need repair if:

  • It isn’t providing sufficient heat.

  • You have high energy bills.

  • You hear loud or odd noises coming from your heating system.

  • Your home is unevenly heated.

  • It’s blowing cold air.

What are the different methods for heating Florida homes?

The heat pump is the most common form of heating in Florida, because of its flexible nature. This is followed by the electric furnace. Gas and propane heaters represent only a tiny fraction of heating systems.

Which heating system is best for my Florida home?

The heating system will depend on the needs of the home, which can be calculated by the energy metric ACCA Manual J load calculations system.

How often does my heating system need to be serviced?

We tell people to have their unit serviced every year: once before peak heating season, and once before they turn their air conditioning on if they own a heat pump. If you neglect the regular maintenance chores, scheduling a maintenance check more often is not out of the realm of reason.

We also recommend that people who have older or problematic units have the unit checked more often. We can make a maintenance plan for you, based on your heating needs, and the age of your unit, and the environmental factors. We also recommend that our customers change their filter every month and keep debris and plant material away from the outdoor portion of the system.

When should I replace my heating system?

Some people replace their heating system when the economics of a repair make replacement a better option. Others replace the unit when energy efficiency and lower electric bills make replacement the best course of action. As heat isn’t as crucial as air conditioning, it’s more attractive to have an HVAC unit like a heat pump.
